Coping with stress

What is stress?
According to the Government of Canada (2008), stress is a product that originates from both the good and bad things that happen to us in our lives. Whether it’s studying for a test, having a performance review at your job, getting married, or planning a vacation, stress can be experienced differently depending on the individual. Some of the most common symptoms of being over-stressed include changes in sleep patterns, appetite, or weight, negative thoughts, restlessness, issues with decision-making or concentration, feelings of guilt, irritability or sadness, and a loss of enjoyment in previously enjoyable activities. Stress is also a risk factor to certain health effects such as heart disease, mental illness, herpes, and some types of bowel disease.
