Human trafficking involves recruiting, transporting, or holding victims to exploit them or to help someone else exploit them, generally for sexual purposes or work. Traffickers get their victims to comply through different forms of coercion.
In this modern-day form of slavery, traffickers can maintain control over a victim in many different ways. It might be physical or psychological, through manipulation, threats, and the abuse of trust and power.
This campaign gained inspiration by the SURVIVORS of human trafficking who advocate for the awareness of ANTI-TRAFFICKING efforts. The two words were joined to coin SUVAT.

At Uzima, we understand the interconnected nature of social issues. In addition to our core initiatives, we are actively involved in education and awareness programs, particularly through our Youth Violence and Human Trafficking Prevention Program (YVHTPP).
YVHTPP Targets:
Youth in Toronto aged 12-29: Our program specifically targets youth within the age range of 12 to 29 in Toronto, recognizing the unique challenges and vulnerabilities faced by individuals in this demographic. Working with the Most Vulnerable Populations: Our YVHTPP focuses on engaging with the most vulnerable populations, including those at high risk of sexual and substance use behaviors, involvement in gang and gun violence, youth in conflict with the law, those involved with or transitioning out of child welfare, homeless youth, and youth not in education or employment training (NEET). Inclusivity in Governance: As a not-for-profit organization, we recognize the importance of diverse perspectives in our mission. While we welcome individuals from all racial backgrounds, we especially encourage black, people of color, and others currently underrepresented in our governance groups to consider joining us. Embracing a multitude of voices enhances our effectiveness in addressing the complex challenges faced by the communities we serve. Uzima Women Relief Group International remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting wellness, fostering empowerment, and creating positive change in the lives of those we touch.
